Police report

PCSO Michaela Bright

It was good to see our new PCSO Michaela Bright at the recent Queen Edith’s networking lunch. She talked about how she has been making contacts in the local community and went through this season’s police priorities, set at the last South Area meeting:

  • To combat drug dealing;
  • To combat ASB on Cambridge Lakes
  • To improve road safety (via combatting inconsiderate parking/cycling etc)

Our neighbourhood policing team sends out regular reports for crime in the south of the city.  The latest report covers the period since 7th July. There have been no dwelling burglaries or thefts from shops in Queen Edith’s in the past two weeks, but there have been thefts from vehicles in Hills Road, Rathmore Road, Spalding Way and Topcliffe Way.

The police ask us to be vigilant as there has been a crime spree in Cherry Hinton. Ford Transit vans (locked and parked in the street) have been targeted, and power tools stolen. Police urge owners of vans (especially Ford Transits) to remove all valuables and tools from their vans when unattended in the evenings and overnight. Car thieves operate at all times of day & night, smash & grab and use drills to gain entry to vans and steal tools.

Cycle thefts continue to be frequent, and twelve bikes have been stolen from south Cambridge streets, including Hills Road and Rock Road. Police remind us to register bikes or other valuable items on www.immobilise.com. All you need is your bicycle model, make and frame number.

If your bike is stolen, report it to the police on 101 and flag it as stolen on your account as soon as possible.This helps the police match its description and return it to you.
