Local Lib Dems are campaigning to make sure the new cycleways on Hills Road keep the road and pavement safe for bus passengers and pedestrians as well as cyclists.
Thanks to the Lib Dems in government, Cambridge has been given £8.2m of government funding for investment in improving cycle schemes.
The County Council has been consulting on options and have had several hundred responses. While many have been supportive of the better provision for bicycles, there are concerns about some aspects of the scheme, particularly the floating bus stops. We share residents’ concerns about the safety of bus users, particularly people with disabilities who will find it difficult to be in conflict with bikes.
We have shared the concerns we’ve heard with the County Council, which is modifying its plans in the light of the comments received.
