The Nightingale Sings!

Queen Edith’s councillors are pleased to report that work is due to start soon on a new pavilion at Nightingale Park.

We have been campaigning for a new pavilion at Nightingale Park for many years. The final act was in 2019, when Cllrs George Pippas and Colin McGerty attended the City Council’s Planning Committee to speak in favour of the planning application, taking the opportunity to request new tree planting and the inclusion of carbon offset features in the design.

We are now two years on, and despite all the difficulties of last year, we’d hoped to see the Council start work sooner on the new building. Cllr Jenny Page-Croft has been pushing the Council for action.

At last it is about to begin.

The first stage will be demolishing the old pavilion, and the City Council tells us this will happen next month.

Apart from the immediate area around the pavilion which will have security fencing, the rest of the park will be usable as normal, which should be welcome news seeing as we are about to be allowed to use leisure facilities from next week. This will include the perimeter footpath. The tennis courts, MUGA, play area, nature garden, trim trail & car park will all still be accessible.

There will be some changes to traffic management for safety reasons — we will publish details when we have them.
