Queen Edith’s, Cherry Hinton and Trumpington come together at the South Area meetings approximately once every two months. The next one is on Monday, February 2nd and will be in Queen Edith’s, at St John’s Church on Hills Road.
Begin with the culture: We are promised an exhibition of a new community art project. Artist Zoe Chamberlain, who designed the Diamond Jubilee thrones in Wulfstan Way, is working with local people on decorative glass threshold panels for the doors and balconies of new houses in Cherry Hinton and Barnwell, inspired by the ancient concept of symbolic ‘talismans’ to protect the home threshold. You can meet the artist and look at her exhibition before the start of the meeting at 7pm.
The meeting proper begins with an Open Forum, where anyone can ask a question or make a statement, perhaps informing councillors on the topics that come up later in the meeting, from traffic speeds to community needs.
Next up is a report from the south Cambridge neighbourhood police on what they’ve been doing over the last few months (combating Class A drugs, trying to reduce cycle crime (Operation Raptor) and cracking down on cycling offences), and the setting of priorities for the future. Anyone can ask questions and suggest areas for police action.
Councillors move on to discussing the following topics:

If you cannot make the meeting but still want to contribute, get in touch with one of your councillors. For Queen Edith’s, that’s Amanda Taylor, George Pippas, Tim Moore and Viki Sanders.
