The Queen Edith’s Liberal Democrat Focus Team have been successful in winning County Council funding for three local highways projects:
Local councillors Amanda, George and Tim submitted bids to the Cambridge Area Joint Traffic Committee, where the projects were scored by other councillors – the local government version of the Eurovision Song Contest. They awarded marks for community benefit, solving of persistent problems, and road safety.
Glebe and Holbrook Roads both have schools on them: the Pelican and Homerton Children’s Centre respectively, and as such they are heavily used in the school rush hours, and exhibit the toxic mix of children travelling to school and parents in a hurry. Michael Fincham lives in Glebe Road and attended the traffic meeting to give a first hand account of the parking and speeding he sees there.
Purbeck Road is a narrow but heavily used road next to Hills Road Sixth Form College, and there are often conflicts between bicycles and motor traffic turning rapidly into it.
Broken pavements are all around us; however, we felt that it’s particularly important to have safe pavements close to the hospital.
As yet, all we know is that funding has been allocated. The details of the solution are yet to be worked out, and we will be consulting residents and talking to officers to come up with the most effective solutions. Please get in touch if you’d like to be involved.
