South Area 29th June in Cherry Hinton

by aldc on 20 June, 2015

southareamap001-265The next South Area meeting is on 29th June, this time at the Cherry Hinton Village Centre in Colville Road.

As usual, the meeting starts off at 7pm with an Open Forum at which anyone can speak on a local issue, or ask a question of councillors. Issues have often been raised during these forums and while the South Area doesn’t always have the powers to sort things out itself, it can often take them forward with other areas of the City and County councils.

The main reports are on policing and environmental services. In each case there’s a chance to hear about recent action as well as help shape priorities for the next few months. The police will be telling us about their recent activity in combatting everything from dangerous parking outside schools to drug-dealing, and the City Council’s environmental staff will be reporting on recent clean-ups in the area, as well as what they are doing to address litter hotspots near Addenbrooke’s and Long Road Sixth Form College.

There will be updates on leisure projects in Trumpington and Cherry Hinton, but of more interest to Queen Edith’s residents wil be a written report on the County Council’s controversial Hills Road cycle lanes scheme. The works are badly behind schedule and the construction of the ‘safe’ cycling lanes is creating a hazardous environment for cyclists. At this stage we do not know whether any county council officers will be attending – please get in touch if you think they should!
